Kaijinbo is the former pupil of Totosai. Totosai quickly realized that Kaijinbo did not wish to forge swords that would help humanity, and instead desired to create powerful blades forged in the fires of evil. Totosai had no choice but to expell Kaijinbo, who took the knowledge he acrued and began forging wicked blades.

Kaijinbo's reputation preceeded him, and brought him to the attention of Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru brings him the head of Goshinki's after learning that the creature's teeth were able to shatter Inuyasha's sword, Tetsusaiga. Because Tetsusaiga was forged by Totosai, Kaijinbo knows that if he can create a sword from Goshinki's teeth it will surpass anything made by his former master. Kaijinbo accepts Sesshomaru's commission and tells him it will take three days to prepare the new sword. When Jaken comes to collect the sword, he is killed by the Kaijinbo who has become overcome by the evil from within the new sword named Tokijin.

The sword forces Kaijinbo to hunt down Inuyasha who is in his human form. Miroku and Sango try to protect him, but the power of Tokijin wielded by Kaijinbo is too much for them to stand against. Miroku even splits Kaijinbo's head open, but nothing seems to stop the lust Kaijinbo has for spilling Inuyasha's blood. Soon enough Totosai arrives bearing the newly repaired Tetsusaiga and Inuyasha and Kaijinbo face off with Tokijin versus Tetsusaiga. The match seems to be even until the power of the new Tetsusaiga rips Kaijinbo's body apart. The only thing that remains is his dismembered hand clutching the hilt of Tokijin.
