Kuroboshi III

Following the discovery of Tamako's long lost Black Cat by Contract Kuroboshi, the elderly cat introduces everyone to his grandson, Kuroboshi III. The senior cat and Tamako both ask Rinne to take on the task of training the child but are tight-lipped as to why they will not handle the duty themselves.

Kuroboshi III seems like a very friendly cat on the surface, he affectionately likes to linger around girls, sit on their laps and pay them compliments. He is quite fond of both Sakura and particularly Tamako, taking offense anytime Rinne calls her "Granny". Despite his pleasing personality, Kuroboshi III hides a secret shame- he is terrified of ghosts. Rinne and Rokumon both try to help him overcome his fear, but the young cat simply cannot get beyond it.

Because of Kuroboshi III's terror of the supernatural, he has developed a preternatural ability to detect the presense of nearby phantoms, even ones that are able to hide from Rinne and Sakura. Of course he runs away in terror as soon as he suspects one is lurking nearby.

The Meaning Behind the Name - 黒星三世

Kuroboshi III's name is written with the kanji meaning "black star," indicitive of the star on his forehead as well as the forehead of his grandfather. Occasionally he is simply called "Sansei" (The Third), the suffix appended to his name to distinguish him from his grandfather who is also named Kuroboshi.
