Chapter 9: 固めの盃
Katame no sakazuki

(Nuptial Cups)
Sakura visits Kaori Himekawa and tells her that she can help her with the dreams she's been having. She takes her to see Rinne in the abandoned clubhouse, but on the way there they spy Sato and Suzuki feeding Rokumon. Eventually they make their way to the clubhouse and find Rinne sitting with Ochimusha, who is wearing Rinne's hakama in reverse so that he will be visible to humans. Kaori tries to escape, but Rinne convinces her to stay. Ochimusha tells Kaori the story of his betrothal to Hime, and that Kaori is her reincarnation. Rinne explains that if they go through with a wedding ceremony and exchange ceremonial nuptial cups that Ochimusha will be able to rest in peace and return to the realm of the dead. Kaori agrees and the ceremony takes place. When it is finally over however, Ochimusha remains. Ochimusha kidnaps Kaori and takes her to the afterlife. Rinne follows and uses Meido Shadan, a technique that enlarges a yen bill to block the Ochimusha's way. Rinne tells Ochimusha that if he behaves this way he will not be able to pass on. Rokumon and Sakura follow into the afterlife and Rokumon convinces Sakura to use Rinne's wallet to buy an Ungako, a mirror that reflects someone's appearance in their previous life. Rokumon hopes that this will prove to Ochimusha that Kaori is not the Hime he was in love with previously. Sakura accidently buys the most expensive mirror, and takes it to Rinne, Kaori and Ochimusha. When Kaori looks into the mirror she begins to cry.

(Reunion)

Soon they realize that Kaori wasn't the Ochimusha's long lost love, but a sea turtle, who was weeping while it gave birth. Discouraged, the Ochimusha realizes that he'll be stuck wandering the Earth until his Hime is reincarnated. Suddenly he recalls that his past love had a flower petal birth mark, and Rokumon says he thinks he knows someone with the same mark. Meanwhile Rinne realizes that the mirror that shows past lives is running up a large bill while it's in use. At school, they bring the middle aged nurse, Ms. Sato over to look into the mirror due to her resembalance to Hime. Ochimusha hopes it's not a match, and is pleased when the mirror reveals Sato to have been a koi fish. Just as the Ochimusha is celebrating, Rokumon returns with Coach Suzuki, who happens to have a flower petal birth mark on his wrist. Staring into the mirror, Suzuki realizes that he is indeed the reincarnation of Hime, much to Ochimusha's great disappointment.

Unsure of what is keeping her attached to the world of the living, Rokumon, Rinne and Sakura set out to discover how they can help the girl move on.

Chapter 12: 無くしたもの
Nakushitamono

(Something Lost)
Everyone at the school has grown frightened of going into the pool, as Misora has stepped up her pestering attacks of the students, dragging them to the bottom of the pool and scaring them. The faculty decides to call in a Shinto priest to perform an exorcism and present an offering of food, but Misora gets even angrier and uses a vortex of water to knock the food away. Seeing this, Rinne decides he needs to use a magical afterlife device, a somato that plugs into Misora's head and shows all of her memories. He hopes that by doing this he can discover what her lingering attachment to this world is and use it to help her move on into the afterlife. The somato flashes her memories into the air like a film, and as Rokumon, Rinne and Sakura watch, they see that Misora lived a very happy and fulfilled life full of compliments, popularity and praise. She seems to have no lingering attachments, but Rinne notices something. Soon he returns with a small jewery box that he gives to Misora. When she opens it she finds a fake tooth and happily pops it into a gap in her mouth. After seeing her destory the sweets that were offered to her and noticing that she covers her mouth whenever she speaks, Rinne realizes that Misora had lost her fake tooth while swimming, and then drowned while searching for it. With a new tooth, she is able to happily pass on to the afterlife, singing her ethereal song for the whole school to hear.

Suddenly a bat appears above her and swoops down, upon which Sakura notices that he is a winged man dressed in a tuxedo. The man whispers to the ghost that rather than just lying around, he should curse the area. The ghost tiredly agrees and the bat-winged man takes out a marker and writes down "curse." The winged snatches the ghost by his hand and takes the the sky while Sakura watches, wondering if he misspelled "curse". At school, Rinne receives a request for help. The girlfriend of the boy in the motorcycle accident says she has been cursed and asks Rinne to meet her on the rooftop. Sakura bumps into him in the hallway and he tells her that the letter the girl sent him is strange. On the roof they meet Suzu Minami, the girlfriend of the boy in the motorcycle accident, and Tomoya Tadano, his best friend. They are confused because both of them received letters as well. Suddenly, Reiji Todoriki, the ghost boy arrives and begins to choke Suzu. Because she's on the wrestling team she's able to throw him off. Rinne reveals that Reiji must not actually be dead, and Suzu confirms that he's in a coma. In order for him to wake up however, they must return Reiji's spirit to his body. Arriving in his hospital room, Reiji's ghost appears again and accuses Suzu of cheating on him with Tomoya. Rinne attempts to use a vaccuum to suck Reiji's spirit back into his body, but the winged man reappears and throws a cash card, slicing through the tube of the vaccuum. Rinne and the bat-winged man seem to know each other, much to Sakura's surprise.

Usagi koya no taiketsu

(Duel at the Rabbit Hutch)
Rinne divulges his past with Masato, the demon boy with bat wings. Six years earlier as a student at Demon Elementary School, Masato was given the assignment to take a soul into hell. Masato found a rabbit near death and attempted to corrupt its soul with lonliness. Rinne arrived and fed the rabbit, telling him he was not alone. Masato attacked Rinne with a pitchfork, and the young Rinne countered by repeatedly bashing Masato over the head with a massive cross. As a result, Masato is back seeking revenge by dragging Reiji's soul to hell. Masato takes Reiji's soul and tries to escape, but Rinne uses his haori to follow them into the spirit realm. Masato unleashes his Devil Fire attack and disappears. Rinne returns to the hospital and tells everyone that the longer Reiji's soul is separated from his body, the harder it will be for him to return to life. The only way for him to come back though, is to want to come back. Rinne accepts the job for free, since it was Masato's grudge that got Reiji involved. Rokumon is irritated that they won't be getting paid for the job, but when Sakura hands over Masato's cash card, he perks up. The next day at school, Suzu Minami finds a message from Reiji in her bento box and Tomoya Tadano is attacked in the hallway, run over by Reiji's motorcycle. When Suzu goes to check on her friend she is disgusted by Reiji's behavior and swears to stop visiting him at the hospital, further infuriating Reiji's already tormented soul. On the roof of the school Masato admires his handiwork.

Rinne gives the guard the slip, literally, by tossing a banana peel at him. Back in the living world Rokumon and Sakura go to the scene of Reiji's accident to see if they can find the item he lost. With no sign of it, Rokumon uses a tsukumogami sticker that animates inanimate objects. He sticks it to the power pole Reiji crashed into, and it immediately starts yelling about dogs peeing on it. It's particularly mad at a dog named Lucifer. Discouraged, Sakura and Rokumon walk through the neighborhood when they hear a woman scolding Lucifer for bringing home piles of rubbish. Amid the objects is a wrapped gift. The duo take the gift back to the hospital where Minami and Tomoya are sitting with Reiji's comatose body. Inside the box are a pair of matching rings he had intended to give to Minami. Back in hell, Rinne is surrounded by a dozens of bottles that all appear to contain Reiji's soul. Suspecting a trap, he grabs a helpfully placed baseball bat and aims it at the jar Masato is fleeing with. He misses however, and sends a baseball through the window of Old Man Thunder, a thunder demon who lives in this part of hell. That is when Reiji reveals the truth about his plan, he never cared about Reiji's soul, he simply wanted to lure Rinne into hell so that he would cause massive damage and be stuck with the bill, unable to leave hell until he paid everything off.
