Kyokai no RINNE Vol 15

Chapter 139: お守りストラップ
Omamori Sutorappu

(The Lucky Phone Charm)
Rinne visits the weather hutch and finds no offerings inside. A girl, Ako, from second year class three reports having frightful dreams. She comes upon a basket hanging from a tree filled with small charms and after taking one her nightly terrors were a thing of the past. Soon girls all over school are helping themselves to the complimentary charms, but after staking out the basket for a while they realize that Renge's black cat is refilling it on the sly. As more and more people take the charms, Rinne finds he is getting less work and the offerings he once depended on so heavily have dried up. Renge looks like she is going to put Rinne out of business, but soon spirits start latching themselves on to the students who took Renge's charms. The ghosts lure everyone onto the rooftop of the school and look as if they are going to force them to jump, but thankfully Rinne flies in just in time and with a swing of his scythe dispatches the looming spirits. Or at least that is what it looks like at first, the ghosts scowl at Rinne but do not disappear, just as Rinne realizes the blade of his scythe has been replaced with a useless plywood one, having been pawned and replaced by Rokumon so they could eat this week.

Chapter 140: 悪霊殺到
Akuryou sattou

(Evil Spirit Surge)
Rinne continues to battle the ghosts with his scythe, but the wooden blade makes it none-to-effective. The ghosts are more annoyed than anything, and so Tsubasa steps in and starts blasthing them with his spirit gun. While the guys fight the ghosts Sakura rushes around the school convincing everyone to hand over their charms. With all the ghosts gathering closer and closer to Sakura as she collects more charms, Renge notices what she's up to but doesn't stop her. In fact she's pleased that all of the spirit energy will be concentrated to just one person. Sakura wheels a massive box filled with the charms into Rinne's room getting them out of the school while Renge rushes to attack Rinne and keep him away from Sakura. He almost instantly recognizes the spiritual energy moving away from the school and toward the clubhouse, but is too busy with Renge to follow it. Thankfully Tsubasa notices it as well and heads over to investigate. Meanwhile inside Rinne's room, Sakura finds a note from Rokumon saying that he has gone to retrieve a new blade for Rinne's scythe. Suddenly she looks up and finds that dozen of ghosts have entered the room and are hovering above her. Suddenly Rinne sees an explosion near his clubhouse and rushes away to find out if Sakura is okay. He finds Tsubasa unconscious outside the clubhouse and rushes in only to see the ghosts escaping in horror. As he enters the room he finds that Sakura is completely okay, and the charms seem to have been purified, Renge's enchantment having worn off as the charms revert to their original purpose of driving the ghosts away. Renge, Rinne and Sakura all seem stunned by the transformation. Rokumon arrives with Rinne's new blade, much to the frustration of Renge. Even though all is back to normal, the weather hutch remains empty for the next few days.

(Princess Whispers)
Rinne and Rokumon visit a shopping street in the afterlife when suddenly a new scythe catches his attention as he passes by a booth. Just as he reaches to pick it up, Kain grabs the weapon as well. Rinne manages to wrestle the weapon away from Kain, but Suzu steps in and helps her master steal it back. The mystical scythe contains an internal microphone that allows it to speak. Rinne and Kain fight over it, and Rokumon soon realizes it has been marked down 90%. Soon Left and Right arrive and reveal that they crafted this weapon. As Rinne inspects it, Kain attacks him once more, sending the scythe falling into a crowd who quickly begin to fight over it as well. It is later revealed that Right and Left make many of these supposedly unique scythes and they are not as rare as one might believe.

Chapter 142: 破局セット
Hakyoku Setto

(The Break-Up Set)
In the afterlife Ageha goes to visit a fortune teller who sells her a special tonic. The young shinigami girl immediately goes to Sankai High and lures Rinne into her portal by sprinkling her elixir on the floor and then using a make-shift flamethrower to light Rinne on fire. Tsubasa and Renge watch from the rear of the class as Ageha frustrates Rinne with her potions and tricks. Renge realizes she knows Ageha from their days together in afterlife grade school, where Ageha's overzealousness and stupidity often caused problems for the more pragmatic Renge. There is no love lost between either of them as Renge promptly angers Ageha by bringing up her sister who has fallen in love with the villainous Sabato. That evening Renge's black cat brings along a similar box to the one Ageha bought from the fortune teller and the oni girl has an epiphany- she'll use the box against Rinne and Ageha. She creates a trail for Ageha to follow and then draws a portal around Rinne making him fall through the floor. When Ageha follows the trail back to Renge's room, she sees Rinne and the oni just as they've landed on her bed after falling through the portal. Ageha immediately assumes the worst and concludes Rinne and Renge have become an item.

A barbell falls from the sky, knocking Ageha unconcious with a business card attached, Renge fears that she will be blamed for the accident which seems to be a product of the unusual chest that Ageha has been carrying around. Seeing an opportunity for himself, Tsubasa draws the outline of a ema, a wooden charm, around Rinne and Sakura as he tries to use a little mysticism to seperate them. During a moment of sheer carelessness Ageha stomps on Tsubasa's ema, breaking it in half. Luckily Sakura had wandered out of the outline, but Renge has replaced her causing she and Rinne to be cursed for separation. A massive crater forms and in the center is a strange creature bearing scissors- the Separation God. Everyone slides deeper into the pit as the god snips away, yet Ageha leaps ahead, banishing the god and taking his scissors for herself. She tries to use them against Renge, but the deflated and defeated Separation God tries to get them back. Ultimately the scissors and Ageha's box are lost in the sands, though her skirmish with Renge is destined to continue.

Chapter 145: 肩が重い
Kata ga omoi

(Dislocated)
Rinne recieves a note in the weather hutch asking him to come to the baseball field. There he meets a female student who fills Rinne on on the problems of one of the second year students who is also a baseball player. It seems that when he pitches he suddenly feels a massive weight on his arm and collapses. Sakura and Rinne can clearly see the problem, a young ghost girl, apparently a devoted fan, hugs his pitching arm happily durning the wind-up which causes him to collapse. When the other players come to check on the young player, he rushes off the field. Rinne finds the young man sitting on a bench while the ghost girl still clings tightly to him. With one of his paintballs, Rinne reveals the ghostly girl to the baseball player. Upon seeing the ghost girl, the other female student who hired Rinne also runs off, shocked by what she has seen. The ghost girl reveals that she was the manager of the school's team many years ago and that she had a crush on a previous pitcher who shared the same uniform number, 1, that our current player has. The ghost girl is incapable of realizing that this new player has nothing to do with her and she refuses to release him. Later, Rinne goes to the dugout to investigate, for that was where the girl mentions watching her hero win the big game. There he finds something glistening in the dirt. Returning to the ghost girl he gives them to her, revealing them to be her lost contact lenses. She replaces them and discovers that the young ballplayer is indeed not the same boy she fell in love with. Later the pitcher from years past comes and leaves flowers in the dugout for the girl who used to cheer him on.

Chapter 147: 疑惑
Giwaku

(Suspicion)
Renge thinks back to when she was in junior high school and tried to give Kain a love letter upon his graduation. She wished him luck at the Life Count Administration Bureau but was interrupted by a swath of other girls who were trying to give him gifts as well. Sakura overhears her reminiscences and asks how Kain will react if he knows that Renge has become a demashigami. Renge knows he will be filled with contempt for her and mopes mournfully as Rinne and Kain fight in the sky. Kain reveals that he has tracked some Demashigami activity to the area and he believes Rinne to be responsible. Renge's spirits are buoyed by Kain's mistake and she joins the battle against Rinne on Kain's side. As proof Kain holds up Renge's wallet which he found at a known Damashigami shop and tells Rinne it contains 700 yen. That paltry amount is almost enough to make Rinne claim it simply for the money, but when he holds fast, Kain places a Tsukumogami Seal on it to make it gain a voice and claim its owner. Renge immediately panics, but Rinne creates a smokescreen, grabs the wallet escapes through a portal to the afterlife along with Rinne and Renge. Now alone Kain reveals that he is familiar with Renge's troubled history, that due to Sabato she was forced to miss her entrance exam and was never able to make it up. In the spirit world Rinne confronts Renge about her situation and then agrees to help her if she'll foot the bill for the items he'll need. Back in the world of the living Kain tells Sakura about how much he wished for Renge to suceed when they were in school. In fact, he goes so far as to say it was his dream for her to succeed, leaving Sakura to think that maybe he has feelings for Renge too. Meanwhile Rinne constructs a distraction using an inflatable Channeling Doll, and a magic seal to make the doll flee. He equips it with some food to lure Kain's dogs, Taro and Jiro on a false trail. Unfortunately the doll does not work very well.

Chapter 148: 感想
Kansou

(Like You Always Were)
Sakura and Kain are lead by Taro and Jiro as they chase down Renge and Rinne. Rinne mourns the delicious gyoza he had to give up in order to lure the dogs away from him. The dogs catch the fleeing dummy and the wallet it was carrying spirals out of its grip only to land at the feet of Sabato who is passing through the area. Renge watches with delight as Kain spots Rinne's scofflaw father, hoping that he will catch him and punish him for all his misdeeds. Instead, Sabato casually greets Rinne and Renge, making them look like his accomplices. Rinne boots his father away and Renge knocks out Kain from behind in hopes of preventing him from hearing Sabato. When Kain wakes up, Renge thinks there is a chance they may be able to overcome their differences, but Kain seems content to keep things casual before flying away and leaving Renge with a tear in her eye.
