Chapter 279: お話しミミちゃん
Ohanashi Mimi-chan

(Talking Mimi-chan)
Ageha leaves Oboro at home telling him to go through her closet and get her waredrobe ready for spring. Angry as usual, Oboro starts slamming boxes around and one opens to reveal a little doll with a sleep mask over her eyes. Finding this curious, Oboro peeks under the mask and a blaze of light soon engulfs him. In the world of the living Sakura stops by to see Rinne and offer him a homecooked meal, but just as Rinne is about to eat it a blast destroys the food and the doll that Oboro found hopes out of a portal an into Rinne's room. The doll has a look of pure evil in its eyes as it leaps around shooting black bile from its mouth as Oboro tries to convince Rinne to help him deal with it. The doll keeps growling that it is not evil despite clearly being so and continues to wreck havoc in Rinne's room when finally Ageha arrives looking for Oboro after finding her room in a mess. Ageha recognizes Mimi as her old doll and explains that it was given to her when she was little. She casually mentions having to change a filter on Mimi's back which puzzles everyone in the room. It seems that "Talking Mimi" would react little by little to the way it was spoken to by little Ageha. When her blue eyes would turn red it meant it was time for a new filter, but one day Ageha decided she did not want to get scolded upon finding Mimi's eyes had been allowed to turn red. She ignored the problem and continued to play until Mimi started leaked black bile. Finally this made her put the doll away in her closet and forget about it rather than have her parents change the filter. Rinne manages to fling some sealing tape around Mimi's eyes giving them enough time to change her corrupted filter. Ageha is saddened that Mimi's eyes do not open again and Rinne says she needs to be taken to the afterlife to be given a proper funeral at the doll temple, though they argue about who should pay for her service.

Chapter 280: 鈴行方不明
Suzu yukuefumei

(Suzu is Missing)
Part of a Life Count Administration bureaucrat's job is to search for souls that crossed the Sanzu River carelessly before it was their time to pass on. Today Kain and his black cat Suzu are searching the river banks for one such person. Kain warns Suzu not to speak without his permission as they search for the lost woman they are charged with finding. A week later while in the afterlife Rinne and Rokumon find a missing person's sign with Suzu's picture on it. The next day Rokumon turns up missing as well. Rinne passes Sakura and mentions he has not been able to find his black cat and continues his search. As soon as Rinne leaves Rokumon appears and whispers for Sakura to come with him to a nearby apartment building. Inside the apartment Sakura finds the ghost of a woman along with Suzu who seems to be as energetic as usual. The ghostly woman says she is waiting on a delivery of cat food, as Suzu explains that she found this woman on the banks of the Suzu River and she believes that she still has life left in her. The woman spoke to her and was confused as to how she got to the afterlife as the last thing she remembered was falling and hitting her head, because the ghost said she wanted to go home Suzu automatically assumed she was not meant to be there and brought the woman back to the her apartment in the world of the living. The ghost tells Suzu that she wants to go home to receive a package which Suzu illogically assumes is cat food for her. Elsewhere Rinne spots Kain in the world of the living searching for Suzu. It seems that Kain quickly found the misplaced soul, a 102 year old named Totsu Nagai who still had a week left to live. Soon Kain was told that a soul left the Sanzu River and realized that Suzu must have brought someone back by mistake. He immediately realizes he will be in trouble if the missing spirit is traced back to him. Sakura finds a photo in the ghost's apartment of a woman's face scratched out in marker and slowly the ghostly woman starts to remember things from her past and slowly seems to become more pensive and withdrawn. The ghost reveals that her friend from work stole her boyfriend and then married him. Upon receiving a wedding invitation the woman started researching curses and was going to use a black cat in a magical ritual when she was killed chasing a cat down some stairs with a net. Slowly the woman is starting to transform into an evil spirit while Rinne is elsewhere pleased to find ten yen under a vending machine.

Kagami otoko

(Mirror Man)
Miho takes Sakura and Rika to do a little clothes shopping when she tells Sakura of rumors of a dressing room in the store where girls feel a presence watching them. No sooner does she say this than a half-dressed girl comes running out and Sakura catches a glimpse of a shadowing figure inside the dressing room mirror. Sakura invites Rinne to investigate and he soon discovers a high school student's spirit that is trapped inside the mirror. The ghost tells Rinne that he cannot leave the mirror and slowly begins to explain his story. He says he has always been popular with girls, but because he aiming to go to a prestigious school he felt he never had time to pursue them. One afternoon he was killed while crossing the street and claims the next thing he remembers is waking up in the mirror of the girl's bathroom at his school. He claims he has no idea why he was there, but he talks about how boring it was just watching girls check their make-up and wash their hands. One day one of the girls glimpsed him in the mirror and he worried about his reputation, causing him to flee into the store's dressing room mirror to hide from his classmates. Rokumon fetches Rinne a pocket mirror to help pull the ghost free from the mirror but when it appears to work the ghost grabs hold to prevent himself from being pulled out of the mirror. Rinne asks him if he has some sort of regret that is holding him there and the ghost begins to ponder the question before remembering the class trip he took shortly before his death. During the trip he and his friends tried to peep into a women's bath house and he died filled with regret that he would never see such a sight having been too serious to partake with them. Rinne points out that he died wishing to have such memories and upon hearing that he comes out of the mirror and dashes away. When Rinne asks where he'll go he happily reports he'll go to a women's bathhouse and have the experience he missed out on in life.

Chapter 285: 三万円の先に
Sanmanen no saki ni

(The Earlier 30,000 Yen)
Late one rainy night Rinne breaks into the the washroom used by the school athletic clubs to do his laundry. It seems that a few days earlier the new washing machine started acting strangely and ejected any clothing that was placed inside it. Returning at night with Sakura, Rinne begins his investigation and finds a ghostly boy sitting inside mumbling something about "30,000 yen," "Myu-Myu" and "pajamas" which seemingly makes no sense. Sakura realizes that the washing machine has been recycled and must have been in service somewhere else before being bought by the school. Soon Renge arrives to do her laundry as well and becomes involved in the case. Sakura tries to press the ghost on the 30,000 yen and soon the spirit recalls a hazardous day of wandering the streets, getting splashed with mud, having paint fall on him and then a lady dropping a cake on him as well ruining his clothes. It seems that his ruined clothes might have something to do with him being stuck inside the washing machine but he soon says he returned home and changed only to go out again when suddenly he realized that he had left 30,000 yen in his pants pocket when he washed his jeans. Both Renge and Rinne are horrified at this loss of money and interrogate him further, pressing him on the pajamas he mumbled about along with the cryptic "Myu-Myu". They wonder if Myu Myu might be an upscale line of pajamas that he was going to buy, but when Sakura says that it sounds like a girl's nickname the ghost seems shocked by a forgotten memory. Rokumon soon brings a 4-D printer from the afterlife and after plugging it into the ghost's head they put all the clues together. Suddenly a full length body-pillow printing with an anime character named Myu-Myu appears from the machine and the ghost leaps out, grabbing the one showing her wearing her pajamas which he explains is an incredibly rare version. The ghost worries they'll laugh at his hobby but Sakura tells him she's happy that he was able to get his pillow which allows the ghost to finally leave the earthly realm.

Chapter 286: ふくしゅう
Fukushuu

(Revenge)
Ayame calls a repairman to look at the leaky roof of her shrine when she realizes something has gone missing from one of the boxes she stores there after the roof leaked on it. Elsewhere Tsubasa bumps into Sakura and shares with her a strange letter he received that simply says "fukushuu" though the way it is written leaves the meaning vague, with Sakura guessing its means "review". As they are discussing the possible meaning a tiny kappa appears and starts slapping Tsubasa's head. Sakura and Tsubasa tell Rinne about what has happened when the kappa attacks Tsubasa once again. The attack surprises Sakura because everyone can see the kappa which proves that the little creature is physical rather than ghostly. Just then Ayame arrives hoping to consult with Tsubasa on her own problems with the missing object from her shrine, which unsurprisingly, turns out to be the mummified remains of a kappa. The kappa attacks Tsubasa again and Ayame nervously worries that the others will realize it is obviously the same creature that was revivifed from her shrine after getting wet. Now the kappa is slowly growing larger after being exposed to the rain. Tsubasa wonders why the kappa continues to pursue him exclusively and Ayame tells everyone a story about a kappa that once pursued a miko only to be chased away by her lover. It seems that the kappa's dried up mummy saw a picture of Tsubasa on Ayame's cell phone and took him to be his rival for Ayame's affections. The kappa who had been easily dealt with finally gets his revenge against Tsubasa by drinking up an entire swimming pool of water and slamming his huge body against the poor exorcist.

Chapter 287: 死神王子
Shinigami ouji

(Shinigami Prince)
One day Sakura sees the ghost of a girl lingering in front of Sankai Hospital and approaches her to see if anything is amiss. The ghostly girl remarks that she is waiting to meet with a shinigami and Sakura cheerfully contacts Rinne for her. When Rinne arrives the girl turns him away politely, seemingly uninterested in Rinne and wanting to meet with a specific shinigami. In fact she cheerfully recounts when a handsome shinigami came to take her from her hospital bed after she died and delievered her to the banks of the Sanzu River in the afterlife. When she asked if he would ride across the river with her the reaper vanished. Sakura asks the girl to describe the shinigami she met and when she mentions he had a cross mark on his cheek it becomes clear that it was Matsugo who the girl had met. Rinne seems reluctant to help reunite the girl with his "friend" but ultimately relents. Matsugo seems to have no recollection of shirking his responsibility to ferry the girl across the river. After some nudging from Rinne he agrees to take the ghost girl across the river, but much to her disappointment Matsugo insists Rinne accompany them as well. Even after getting the girl across the river Matsugo continues to take little interest in her, saddening the lonely girl and forcing Rinne to insist that he behave himself. Matsugo offers to take her for a ride on a horse before laughing and riding off without her until Rinne hits him on the head with the back of his scythe. After finally spending a happy day with the girl she cheerfully continues her journey to the wheel of reincarnation and Matugo stakes out Rinne's house awaiting his friend's return.

Chapter 288: 呪いの短冊
Noroi no tanzaku

(The Cursed Paper Slip)
Sakura and Rinne are investigating a cursed slip of paper used to write wishes upon during Tanabata. Nozomu Sasaki, a fellow classmate for whom the cursed slip seems directed is accompanied by his friend Tasuku Hoshino as they explain the situation to Rinne. The paper slip is all scribbled on, obscuring whatever the original wish was. Soon they realize a ghost is behind the defaced slip of paper and using a color ball Rinne reveals it to be the masked spirit of a child. While Rinne pursues the ghost, Sakura goes to Nozomu's home and learns that the slip of paper has been reappearing every year for the past five years. It seems that something happened at the Tanabata festival half a decade ago that is still causing these problems. He starts to think about that festival and realizes how much of a brat he was in those days, having stolen offerings, peed on the temple grounds and defaced other people's slips of paper with their wishes written on them. Just then Rinne returns with the little masked ghost. Sakura immediately assumes it is the spirit of the temple they defaced, but Rinne points out that it is instead a wraith, the embodiment of ill-will from someone. Oddly enough the masked wraith saves Nozomu from nearly having iced coffee dumped on him after his mother trips while bringing it up to everyone. Rinne decides to use a black light from the afterlife to analyze the writing that was scribbled out on the cursed slip. The incantation wishes for Nozomu to be miserable, and when Rinne slices off the little ghost's mask he finds a child version of Tasuku underneath. Tasuku claims to have no memory about why he would wish ill of his friend but Rinne forces the grudge back into Tasuku who immediately remembers that he was caught and punished in lieu of Nozomu for all the trouble the pair caused at the Setsubun festival five years ago. Tasuku immediately wrote the ill-fortune which caused his friend to take a bad fall down the temple stairs, but then felt guilty about it and scribbled out the wish. Consequently his wraith would protect Nozomu, but often his protection would push him into even more danger.
