Chapter 339: ひまわり迷路
Himawari meiro

(Sunflower Maze)
Summer vacation continues for Rinne, Sakura and Tsubasa and they decide to take Ichigo to a rural inn whose claim to fame is the huge sunflower maze that surrounds them. The young couple that runs the inn admits that they were able to purchase the inn for a surprisingly cheap price. The couple speaks about the strange things that seem to happen around their inn. The sunflowers multiply at an astonishing rate and the husband says that one day he walked just a few meters into the field and was unable to find his way out for three days. Heading outside to investigate Ichigo immediately is pulled into a portal into another realm while Rinne falls into a pitfall trap. Sakura notices some spiritual fetters lingering in the field as the flowers seem to turn against them and Tsubasa hurries her away from the danger. Suddenly a little cottage labeled the "House of Sweets" falls from the sky before them and Tsubasa tells Sakura they should hide out and take a rest within. Tsubasa barges in and falls into a pit of chocolate and when Rinne catches up he reports the hole he fell into was filled with sponge cake. Rinne and Rokumon are overjoyed to devour the House of Sweets as it is made from cookies and candy but soon find they are desperately thirsty after gorging themselves. Wandering in the sunflower maze they come upon a fountain but before they can drink Ichigo returns from the afterlife with Shoma in tow and they promptly use the water from the fountain to make sticky mochi. Ichigo explains that she has signed on as an adviser to Shoma and that he will pay her for directions on how to exorcise ghosts and spirits. Traveling deeper into the sunflower maze they come upon the spirit of an old man dressed as a sunflower, the deceased owner of the inn prior to selling it and with Ichigo's help Shoma is able to banish the lingering spirit.

Chapter 340: 魔法のウニライス
Mahou no uni raisu

(The Magical Sea Urchin Rice)
Still at the seaside for summer vacation, Rinne comes across a local diver who tells him that while scuba diving one day he saw a ghostly apparition of a girl under the water carrying a pot. Intrigued, Rinne begins an investigation. Donning his haori, Rinne is able to travel underwater and promptly finds the pot the diver said he saw the ghost clutching. The pot seems real enough and is covered with sea urchins. On the shore Tsubasa and Sakura spot Ageha who appears eating a sea urchin she said she got nearby. Soon they notice Tama, Renge's black cat, and follow her back to a sea side "maid cafe" where Renge is working selling sea urchin stuffed with rice. Puzzled by how someone as poor as Renge could possibly have amassed this much product they suddenly hear Rinne's voice coming from the back room. Rushing back they find another pot with Rinne hanging out of it. It seems the pot under the sea vacuums up the sea urchins and spits them fresh from the ocean into the store. Rinne got pulled through and now they begin to investigate why Renge would want to open such a shop. When they realize what Renge is selling they are shocked- it is simply rice stuffed in the shell of an urchin with all the meat scooped out. The foolish boys will pay ridiculous prices for the cheap food just to ogle Renge as she serves it. What they do not realize is the food pulls their souls from their body for her to sell later. Rinne goes outside and promptly smashes the vessels she is collecting souls in but Renge tries to bribe him with the delicate meat of the sea urchins she has been saving by scooping them out of the shells. Ageha commands Oboro to eat the sea urchins, removing the temptation from Rinne. With Rinne stunned at the loss of such delicate meat Renge runs back inside to continue her plan only to find Kain has arrived. She quickly tosses her cash box into the ocean to hide her illegal gains.

Chapter 341: 粉もんの悲劇
Konamon no higeki

(The Flour Tragedy)
Tsubasa is asked to come to a street carnival to investigate some odd things that have been happening and he allows Rinne and Rokumon to tag along. Rinne insists that Tsubasa invited him while Tsubasa scoffs that he had to loan Rinne money to rent a yukata to wear for the event. Soon the group sees many couples arguing and seemingly having a terrible time at the carnival, a scene that seems odd for such a festive occasion. As they observe the couples they notice a pair splitting an okonomiyaki between them. As they watch the girl offers the larger portion to her boyfriend only for a ghost to appear and lick up all the sauce on the top of the treat and vanish leaving the boys of the couples thinking that their girlfriends are intentionally giving them the inferior half of the food. Rinne is finally able to capture the ghost and he and Tsubasa set about interrogating him over why he is going around licking up all the sauce. Sato the ghost begins to explain his love of sauce, telling them that when he was alive he visited the fair and had ordered some food for himself when his female classmate appeared and asked for a few bites. He explains with a fury that the sauce was unevenly distributed and only covered half of his food, and of course his classmate at the saucy half before leaving with her boyfriend. Sato was crushed by losing both the girl and the tasty sauce and so he has set about disrupting couples and satisfying his sauce craving ever since. Tsubasa tries to help him pass on by offering him more saucy treats but after licking the sauce off he seems unsatisfied. It seems there is something deeper tying him to the world of the living. Rinne has to re-inspire Sato's love of sauce, telling him that the sauce is so good that he wishes he could swim in a sea of it. Reinvigorated the ghost returns to licking up everyone's sauce but seems no closer to going home than before.

Chapter 342: ホラ太郎のお話し
Horataro no ohanashi

(The Story of Horataro)
Walking to school Sakura hears a couple in the middle of a heated argument and she notices a dark aura hovering around the young man, second year student Yuuya Ohora. Later when Rinne seeks the boy out he seems regretful and Sakura notices the dark spirit is no longer following him. Rinne initially turns down the boy's request for help, saying couples counseling is not part of his job. Miyuki Miyake, Yuuya's girlfriend, is distressed by the problems they are having. Sakura asks when the issues started and she says at the end of summer vacation when she gave him a souvenir, a strange little figurine to hang from his school bag that has the words "Hora" written in his mouth. Rinne and Sakura both notice the black shadow that surrounds the trinket. Miyuki explains the background of the little character. She tells the story of a braggart named Horataro who lusted after Fuki, the local beauty. One day Fuki consulted with a statue of Jizo, the guardian of children for his advice, and the statue seemed to speak, telling her that she should marry Horataro and become happy. Little did Fuki know that Horataro himself was hiding behind the statue and saying these very words. Just then the son of a local millionaire walked by and discovered what Horataro was trying to do. Fuki marries him instead and Horataro is shamed by the entire village. Yuuya shouts that Miyuki is hideous as she finishes the story and Rinne notices the black cloud around him seems to have grown agitated. Using his tools he exorcises the ghost and applies a color paint ball to render it visible to everyone. Everyone assumes that the large-lipped ghost must be Horataro because of the similarity in his appearance to the little figure on the bag strap but the ghost insists he is Sorataro not Horataro. Sorataro reveals the truth of the story- in fact it was Fuki who hid behind the Jizo statue as she hoped to convince the millionaire's son to fall in love with her, but when Sorataro caught her she promised to marry him if he would keep quiet about seeing her there. Sorataro says he cannot pass on until the historical record is corrected and restores his good name, but ultimately it proves to be enough that the Hora figurine becomes unpopular and interest in it fades away.

Chapter 343: 罪の木
Tsumi no ki

(Tree of Sin)
Rokumon brings Rinne a selection of fliers for part time jobs to help supplement his meager income. Rinne balks that most of the jobs pay less than 300 yen an hour until he stumbles across one that catches his eye that seems too good to be true. The flier promises 15,000 yen simply for taking care of a potted plant for three days. Rinne goes to retrieve the potted tree the next day and is a bit worried when he is told that it is a "tree of sin". It is explained that the tree is planted around areas of great evil spiritual energy and helps to leech it from the soil to purify tainted places. The shinigami have been assigned a job of helping to purify the sin that has built up in the small saplings. Most importantly Rinne is told never to water the tree. Rokumon brings Sakura around to show her the little tree when Rinne is away and Sakura immediately says it looks as if the tree needs water. Rokumon, not knowing that the tree should never be watered asks if she could give it a little from her water bottle. In the following days others start witnessing strange scenes involving Sakura- Rika and Miho notice her riding on the back of a motorcycle with an unfamiliar boy, then Tsubasa soon sees her giving her lunch to another male student. Sakura claims not to have any memory of the events however. When Rinne returns home he notices that the little plant is now starting to sprout yen coins instead of leaves but when Rinne asks the little black cat if he gave the plant any water Rokumon denies it. When more students confess to having Sakura seemingly falling in love with them Tsubasa goes to Rinne to discover who this imposter could possibly be. When they finally find the duplicate they notice a hazy set of marks floating over her head which soon appear to say 500 yen. Rinne remarks that it must be the price she is charging to hang out with these boys but just then Rokumon arrives with the tree of sin in full bloom, covered in 500 yen coins.

He takes it back to the afterlife and sheepishly consults with the elderly woman who entrusted the tree to him. Chapter 345: 思り出の宿
Omori no de no yato

(Inn of Memories)
Rinne visits a countryside inn where the innkeeper tells him there have been rumors of ghosts haunting the place. As soon as Rinne opens the door to the communal baths he sees it is no mere rumor- there are dozens of ghosts lingering in the tubs which are packed to overflowing. The source of the problem is easy to see as well, the spigot that fills the bath is a sculptural lion's head which seems to be spilling ghosts out with every gallon of water that fills the huge baths. Rinne soon notices that hanging on a chain around the lion's neck is a chain with a heart-emblazoned lock and key attached to it. The moment he touches the lock however he is violently electrocuted by some supernatural spell designed to keep the lock in place. Rinne immediately realizes that it is a shinigami's tool that was left behind from a previous visitor, but it has grown rusty and useless after so many years. When Rinne talks to the innkeeper again he mentions that a couple came ten years ago to solve a similar ghost problem and he shows Rinne a picture of the couple- Sabato and Otome prior to her reincarnation as Ichigo. Returning to the inn, Ichigo tries to remove the lock herself but is shocked just as Rinne was. She realizes that if she wants to remove it she will need the help of Sabato as well. Rinne is reluctant to involve his no-good father, but is able to convince the innkeeper to let them stay there for the night in exchange for taking care of the ghost problem. Rinne struggles to keep his now childlike mother awake late enough at night to replace the lock while Sabato constantly tries to skip out without carrying out the exorcism. Rinne hunts for his father who has disappeared only to find him passed out drunk in the baths. With his mother asleep and his father drunk he drops them both on the lion spigot and they mumble about what a good day they have had. Those seem to be the magic words they must have recited the day they originally placed the lock and it falls away allowing Rokumon to slip a new lock on in its place and seal the ghosts away once more.

Chapter 346: 友情マスター
Yuujyou masutaa

(Friendship Master)
Miho shows the class a photograph she took with the popular fourth year tennis ace from Yosono High named Nishikori. Strangely though, the photograph has a ghostly hand covering the lens. Rinne is surprised to find a letter in the weather hutch from Yosono High and so after class he travels to the nearby neighborhood to investigate the tennis star himself. While watching Nishikori play he sees a ghostly hand touching the boy's shoulder. After his match Nishikori tells Rinne he felt the hand touch him and he suspects it is the work of a friend named Matsuoka. Nishikori explained that he knew Matsuoka from their elementary school days when they were in the same tennis club, however by the time the joined the Yosono High program Nishikori's popularity had alienated Matsuoka and they begin to lose touch with one another. Rinne sees Matsuoka's ghost lurking nearby and follows him to ask what is happening. Matsuoka tells Rinne he wishes to make peace with his friend and so when Rinne tries to use a color paint ball to make Matsuoka visible he is shocked when an invisible barrier fries the ball and prevents it from coloring the spirit. Looking at the photo Miho took again Sakura notices something hovering in the background beyond the ghostly hand. Looking closer Rinne notices the last person he had hoped to see- Matsugo. Suddenly Matsugo appears through a portal and when Matsuoka sees him he calls him "Friendship Master". Apparently Matsugo has been coaching the ghost about how to treat his former friend. It seems Matsugo has been coaching Matsuoka to be more like he is with Rinne, leering and hanging all over his male friend. Nishikori finds a present left for him on the tennis court and when he opens it he finds a message written on a tennis ball that says "broken promise". Nishikori angrily throws the balls away as Sakura asks about its meaning. Nishikori explains that Matsuoka wanted to meet him for practice one day and whle Nishikori had planned to come he was suddenly hospitalized with a severe case of food poisoning. He tried to call Matsuoka to tell him what happened but could not reach him. When Matsuoka reveals that he did not mean to suggest that with the tennis ball he explains that the reason Nishikori could not reach him by phone was because he had gotten into an accident while on the way to their practice session and was killed. Seeing this Matsugo agrees to lower the barrier and allow Rinne to make Matsuoka visible so he and Nishikori can make up. With this solved Matsugo waits for Rinne to join him on a "date" in the afterlife though Rinne of course breaks this promise.

Chapter 347: 恵比寿様風
Ebisu-sama fuu

(Lord Ebisu's Way)
A parcel arrives at Tsubasa's home from Ayame containing a small strap that features the likeness of one of the lucky gods- Ebisu, the fisherman. Ayame visits with Rinne and tells him that she is would like him to steal the Ebisu strap she sent to Tsubasa back for her, explaining that it was given to him by mistake. She begins to explain what the problem is when Tsubsa encounters Sakura in the streets. As he approaches her to speak, Ebisu appears over his head clutching a heart and tosses his fishing line at Sakura. Just before it can hook Sakura Ayame sprints out and knocks Ebisu away. She explains that typically Ebisu will grant good fortune in business ventures but this Ebisu is set on hooking the heart of loved ones and helping couples fall in love. Ebisu returns, wielding the red thread of fate and tries to cast it at Sakura once more on Tsubasa's behalf but she easily bats the hook away and Rinne runs out to kick Tsubasa away. Ayame hopes that perhaps Tsubasa's Ebisu will hook her heart instead, but when she steps forward Ebisu remains still and disinterested. Soon the little fisher god is casting his line at Sakura again, but this time Ayame uses an Ebisu charm of her own to conjure a fisherman to help. Instead of hooking Tsubasa however, their lines become tangled and puts an end to the threat of Tsubasa accidentally winning Sakura's heart.

Chapter 348: 精霊召喚
Seirei shoukan

(Spirit Summoning)
It is Halloween at Sankai High and everyone is dressed up for a costume party and celebration. Rinne plans to go wearing his haori hoping that the celebrations will draw in spirits and earn him some extra money. Sakura, dressed as a fairy, approaches Annette and comments on her witch costume, though Annette is quick to say that it is no costume but her real witches uniform. Everyone gathers around as Annette draws an elaborate summoning circle in the dirt and suddenly hundreds of spirits burst through into the living world causing Rinne to panic at the sight. Annette explains that spirits tend to gather together on Halloween and it is a perfect time to bring them forth. Of course Rinne shouts at her for interfering with his business. Annette explains that she has to do this as part of her continued certification with the Witches Board. She must summon forth spirits and take a selfie with them that she can submit showing her mastery of the summoning arts. There are four spirits that Annette says she hopes to summon forth, each representing a different element- the Salamander of Fire, the Undine of Water, the Sylph of Air and the Gnome of Earth. Rinne sees a red spirit float by and snatches it for Annette, thinking it might be the salamander, but when she snaps the picture it simply turns out to be a common paper lantern ghost. He disrupts Renge's scheme to snatch souls using a water balloon game in hopes that the spirit of the undine might be there, but simply finds a few odd mermaid ghosts instead. Tsubasa tosses his sacred ashes at some low floating ghosts thinking they might be the gnome, but instead it reveals many western ghosts all shouting "no!" (instead of "gnome"). The windy ghosts that Rinne finds turn out to be deceases spirits with sniffles and colds instead of the sylph he had hopped for. Ultimately Annette is able to trick her way into certification by sending the board a photo of herself next to Sakura, telling them that Sakura was the sylph spirit thanks to her Halloween costume.
