Master is the bartender/owner of the Chachamaru bar where Akemi works at night. He's a reserved, easy going guy, always letting Akemi be as lazy as she wants to while she's at work, but when it comes to the business, he can be as shrewd as he has to be to save some yen.

Chachamaru isn't much to look at, but does serve cold beer and snacks and since Akemi works there its the easiest place for the cast to go and get completely wasted. Outside of Maison Ikkoku, Chachamaru is where a large part of the action takes place during the series.

Master even gets involved in Godai and Kyoko's "relationship" sometimes. When everyone gets drunk and tells Kyoko different horror stories about what Godai has been up to, Master takes it upon himself to set things right. His largest storyline appearance would have to be in the baseball storyline. Master forms a team of his best patrons to go up against the local businessmen in the area, and the results of having people like Yotsuya and Mrs. Ichinose on your team are very funny.

The Meaning Behind the Name

Master is the title given to someone that runs a bar.
