Inuyasha Store Opens in Tokyo

Akira Kamiya, best known to Takahashi fans as the voices of Shutaro Mendo and Shun Mitaka has announced that he is leaving the role of Kogoro Mori on Detective Conan. White Comic Game
After the success of the other Shonen Sunday and Shonen Magazine collaboration games, Konami has announced plans to release a new roleplaying game for the Nintendo DS, featuring characters from Inuyasha, Firefighter Daigo and 96 other series according to the developer. While the license itself is no surprise, the speed in which it has occurred definitely is. Viz has announced at the San Diego Comic Con that they have already acquired the Inuyasha sequel anime, and will be calling it "Inuyasha the Final Act." The series will debut in Japan in October. Release Dates
Along with the news of Inuyasha Kanketsuhen hitting the airwaves October 15th in Japan, Shonen Sunday has provided further information regarding the three 'It's a Rumic World' OVAs. All three will be released as a digipack boxset, including a 32 page booklet. The set will be released on January 29, 2010 and will retail for 19,950 yen (roughly $200 dollars). Source: Websunday

NHK Radio is broadcasting a series of radio drama's based on Takahashi's short stories. The program, entitled "Takahashi Rumiko Tanpenshuu", airs each Sunday at 11:15-11:45 pm (July 19th-September 6th). Inuyasha VIZBIG
According to the Simon & Schuster website a VIZBIG edition of Inuyasha is scheduled for release on November 10th of this year. This new edition will feature the 3-in-1 style of the other VIZBIG releases like Dragonball Z and Rurouni Kenshin. No news on extras but a color pages and a right to left format are likely. This information has been floating around this week, but we forgot to post it up here. The three animated specials from the "It's a Rumic World" gallery event are scheduled for release in Japan in "winter of next year" (early 2010) according to the current issue of Shonen Sunday. Sunday/Magazine 50th Anniversary Party
Shonen Sunday and Shonen Magazine both published their 50th anniversary issues this week, and in addition to this, both had a lavish party in Tokyo. 158 mangaka were on hand, and Takahashi was there, where she gave a speech and drew an image of Lum alongside some other legendary creators. BoA Interview
Liz Ohanesian, a writer for the LA Weekly recently did an interview with BoA, the Korean singer who performed the Inuyasha ending theme "Every Heart". Rumiko Returns!
The early rumors floating around various places on the net have Rumiko Takahashi's next series as set to debut in the Shonen Sunday double issue #21/22. The issue will hit stores in Japan on Wednesday, April 23rd which means Tuesday for us in the USA. The title is still unknown at this early date, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear something. Next week's Shonen Sunday will also have a DVD featuring trailers for the animation featured at the event. It's a Rumic World event. Its unclear yet if the DVD will feature only the opening animation that has been spread around the internet, but it definitely does not include the full episodes from the gallery show. Rare Takahashi Drawing to Debut
Before Kuriyama Village was merged with Nikko city it held an annual Kappa festival every year from 1987 to 2003. Each year the city would invite manga artists to draw a kappa. Tamiki Wagaki's Inspiration
Tamiki Wagaki, the author of one of Shonen Sunday's newest hits, "The World That Only God Knows" mentions Takahashi as one of his inspirations not only for the series but as his main motivation for becoming a mangaka in the first place. Mariko Ishihara Gossip
One of the more sensational news stories going around Japan right now is that Mariko Ishihara (Kyoko in the 1986 live action film) is marrying her ex-lover Koji Tamaki. The two had an affair in the 80s while Tamaki was married, and in her tell-all book Ishihara made claims that he was physically and sexually abusive towards her. Kappei Yamaguchi at Sakura-Con
Kappei Yamaguchi, the voice of Ranma Saotome and Inuyasha will be attending this year's Sakura-Con. The event will take place April 10-12 in Seattle and will mark Yamaguchi's second trip to the United States. Source: Anime News Network

Manga Discussion in Yomiuri Shimbun
Writer and anatomist Takeshi Yoro discussed manga in yesterday's edition of the paper. Yoro mentioned Takahashi's use of puns in Urusei Yatsura, particularly with the character of Cherry's and described Maison Ikkoku as having "the air of France." Inuyasha Cell Phone Site Opens
Shonen Sunday annouced that a new website to commemorate the completion of the Inuyasha manga will be going online from February 18th through March 31st. Diamond to Stop Distributing 1,018 Viz Volumes
Diamond Comic Distributors have announced that they will no longer re-stock over 1,000 Viz volumes. Takahashi titles affected by this include: the six volumes of The Return of Lum, all of Maison Ikkoku, half of Mermaid Saga, and all of the Inuyasha Ani-manga. More It's A Rumic World News
Websunday has announced that the "It's a Rumic World" gallery show will be heading to Niigata, Takahashi's home town on March 7th through April 12th. Full details about the location can be found here. They make special mention that the show will air all of the new OVAs as well as contain the My Lum artwork and Maison Ikkoku model from the Tokyo show. Also this week in Shonen Sunday one of Takahashi's old pieces of color art was used to advertise the newly released final collected volume of Inuyasha. Source: Websunday.net

Viz President Interviewed
Yesterday the Yomiuri Shimbun published an interview with Viz Media President Seiji Horibuchi. In the interview Horibuchi reveals that Viz was in a tough financial situation until the publication of Ranma ½ saved the company. As a result Takahashi was invited to the 1994 San Diego Comic Con. This completely slipped by us last month, but Inuyasha was one of 17 manga that was awarded the Jury Recommended Works award in the story manga category in the Media Arts Awards. Release Date for Final IY Book + Extra
The final volume of Inuyasha (56) will be released on February 18th. Shogakukan is planning on releasing a special book on the same day entitled "Inuyasha Tokubetsu Henshuu: Inuyasha to Kagome", and will retail for 900 yen. Shougakukan Creative announced that they released manga books that are printed in the same size as the original hand drafts (B4). The first twovolumes are Rumiko Takahashi and Mizuki Shigeru.
