 Sento are the large public bathhouses often shown throughout the series. Onsen are the outdoor, open air baths. Sento are found in most cities and small towns and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Onsen are popular tourist attractions and many large commmercial resorts have developed around them. Onsen usually emphasize togetherness and being part of a group.
Relevance
to Ranma ½
Sento, onsen, bathouses and hotsprings are all ubiquiteous with Ranma ½. Characters seem to find one whenever they need a hot bath.
