Tea Ceremony
Food
taken
from Tea Hyakka Magazine
In the 16th century, tea drinking was raised to an art with the practice of elaborate tea ceremonies, based on the principles of Zen and the spiritual discipline of the samurai. Developed to free the mind of everyday stress through simplicity of movement and tranquil settings, the tea ceremony became so ritualized that exact strictures were followed in preparing, serving, and consuming the tea. Today the tea ceremony, cha-no-yu, is still practiced in Japan and is regarded as a form of disciplinary training for mental composure as well as a good way to learn etiquette and manners.
