
Tale of Genji
The Tale of Genji is considered to be one of the earliest novels in world's history. It was written in the 11th century by a female writer, Lady Murasaki. The scenes from this novel are frequent subjects of ukiyo-e. The story is basically about the love affairs and adventures of Prince Genji, a kind of aristocratic womanizer.
Relevance
to Urusei Yatsura
During some of the various feudal adventures the such as "Ataru Genji Visits the Heian Capital", the gang are recast as characters from the novel.
