Toshu

Toshu is a humble human who forged the sword Datsuki. The blade is made from the scales of Ryujin, a humanoid dragon who has come to reclaim the sword as his own. Toshu worries that once Ryujin gains the Datsuki he will kill the swordsmith. Toshu has lived in hiding from Ryujin and has become a nomad, travelling from village to village; never staying in one place for too long.

Toshu reveals the wound he suffered at the hands of Ryujin- a series of scales that surround his right eye. In hopes of leading Ryujin astray, Toshu has used his abilities as a master swordsmith to create forgeries of the Datsuki, one of which fell into the hands of Mujina.

During the battle with Ryujin, Toshu's cowardly persona begins to disappear. Once Ryujin is gravely injured and the danger has passed, Toshu takes the Datsuki and plunges it into the dragon man. Datsuki powers up to its full potential and Toshu annouces that his intentions were always to keep the powerful blade for himself. Toshu reveals that he sought out Ryujin and begged to forge a sword for the demon using his own scales, but secretly knowing he would never willingly turn over the blade.

In battle with Inuyasha, the Datsuki can only match the Tessaiga by merging itself with Toshu, who begins to resemble Ryujin as he grows scales over his body and his strength increases.
