Oni
Mythology & Folklore

for further reading: Tomobiki-cho

The oni, commonly translated into English as "ogre" are common creatures in Japanese folklore. The often are described as having red skin, horns and wearing tiger pelts.

Relevance to Ranma 1/2

The little oni pictured here makes an appearance in one chapter of the manga and one of the OVAs, but the best known oni that Takahashi has written about is, of course, Lum Urusei Yatsura. Click on the link to Tomobiki-cho to read a lot more about the history of the oni.
