Volume 44

The BGM at work is the Kyukoku Chojin R soundtrack. It's perfect.

Editors Note: Michael Jackson launched his Bad Tour in Tokyo, and actually toured the entirety of Japan from September 12 to October 12, 1987. Jackson dedicated his Japanese concerts to Yoshiaki Hagiwara, a five-year-old boy who was kidnapped and murdered, and gave ¥1,614,701 (around $15,017) to the parents of Hagiwara. Jackson's pet chimpanzee Bubbles also made the journey to Japan with him.

Volume 47

Your Excellency Demon Kogure, I'm sorry we weren't able to meet up. We will next time for sure.

Volume 12

The first volume of Ranma 1/2 will debut in a month. I've already drawn the cover for it.

Volume 13

I watched Doomed Megalopolis (Teito Monogatari) and The Last Emperor at a hush-hush viewing. It was a fulfilling day.

Webmasters' Note: Takahashi later used many themes from Doomed Megalopolis in her later series MAO. We've made a video discussing the ties between the works.

Volume 14

No matter how busy I am I want to go to the Tokyo Dome for the Mike Tyson fight.

Webmasters' Note: Tyson fought in Tokyo twice in his career. The first fight, which Takahashi refers to here is Tyson vs Tubbs from March 21, 1988. His second fight would be against Buster Douglas on February 11, 1990, in which he would suffer his first professional loss.

In March and April new staff members joined. In April we'll do our best, though its hard with Ranma plus two one-shots.

Volume 31

Big summer job (?) I'm working on my schedule for the summer and I'm sure I'll be working everyday.

Volume 32

I watched Chang vs Ohashi's world boxing match. In the world boxing matches that I attend, the Japanese fighters always lose, why?

Webmasters' Note: Takahashi is referring to the Chang Jung-koo (張正九) versus Hideyuki Ohashi (大橋秀行) rematch that took place June 27, 1988.

Volume 33

I talked with pro-boxer Hatanaka. An article will be published in YS.

Volume 34

I will start a short serialiazation in the August 5th issue of Young Sunday. I don't think I will have time to suffer from summer fatigue.

Volume 35

I don't think I can go to the sea this year, so I drew the sea and water with my own colors.

Webmasters' Note: This color chapter of Ranma 1/2 featured the characters going to the beach in search of a cure for Ranma's "Cat Tongue" affliction.

Volume 36

It's been decided to make One-Pound Gospel into an anime video release. See Young Sunday for more details.

Volume 37

Thanks to the fact that I was finished drawing Ranma I think that I'll be able to manage the double barrel of Young Sunday serialization.

Volume 38

The TV drama Mama's Color Pencils was amazing. Some people misunderstand the manga artist when they see it...

Volume 39

On September 4th, boxer Hatanaka is challenging for the world title in Nagoya. I'm going to support you!!

Volume 48

During my busy schedule I took a short trip to Nara. There was an autumnal feeling at the Manga Cafe there.

Volume 50

Rumiko Takahashi does not appear in this issue due to illness

Webmasters' Note: Shonen Sunday 1988 volume 50 - this issue was the first issue in which she could not publish. It is titled "Notice of Short Hiatus Due to Sudden Illness" The captions state "I'm sure you're all surprised, I'm surprised myself. I was confident I was in very good health, when suddenly I got sick (appendicitis). It's frustrating that I can't draw the manuscript with my intestines as they are. As soon as I recover, the story will be more interesting than ever. I will do my best to draw manga so please be patient a little longer."

Volume 13

I can't respond to the rapid increase in fan letters. I'm sorry.

Volume 14

I participated in the auditions for voice actors. Now then, who should be the voice of Ranma?

Webmasters' Note: Takahashi writes Ranma in kanji (乱馬). This is typically used to indicate male Ranma, while female Ranma is often written in hiragana. Ultimately newcomer Kappei Yamaguchi would be cast and years later Takahashi would personally request that he be cast as the voice of Inuyasha. Yamaguchi has worked in every Rumiko Takahashi anime ever since his debut in Ranma 1/2.
